either "je suis fatigue" or the dialogue says "huit heures" not "neuf" as is spoken.

Very useful topic!! "I am tired" is usually one of the first phrases I make sure I learn along with "Where is the bathroom?" before I travel anywhere.

The "tout seul ?" comment is rather "osé". You would normally have to have a good relationship with your colleague to be able to say something like that without attracting some form of rebuke, because it is fairly suggestive.

Also, one ought to be careful about using the "tu" form of address in the workplace, at least in France (I can't speak for Belgium), it is very dependent on the company or the environment in which one works. People often "tu" each other when they are of a similar social status, or there is an explicit understanding to do so. Usually, you would not "tu" your boss, or higher management, unless you also happen to be in a higher management position, but even then one should be wary of using "tu", as it can come across as very impolite. Many young firms (young as in terms of years of existence) often have a more open style of management and so "tu" is used more frequently across the board, but it is definitely best to test the waters and ask before leaping in and "tu"-ing all and sundry !!!

It might have been a good idea to have mentioned this point in the podcast and indicate the "vous" forms of address. Although the French are more forgiving of foreigners who are trying to learn French and may be ignorant of cultural and social customs, it won't win you any Brownie points in your job if you "tu" the MD or CEO !!

"et demie" : you need to make the word for "half" (demi) take the feminine form of agreement with the word hour, because "heure" is a feminine noun. However, since "demi" only refers to a single half-hour, you do not add an "s".

French is a difficult language to master in the written form, because, as in English, there are numerous exceptions, and it is not at all phonetic. The way French children are taught to learn written French today is through a mixture of a combination of phonemes and corresponding word stems. However, there has been much debate and a government turnaround as to whether this is really the best way to teach children to read and write correctly.

C'est vrai, eruworld - tu ne dors pas assez!! Quatre heures par nuit is not assez. Two days now you are fatiguée, so that is proof. But I guess if it's because you are staying up to listen to FrenchPod, then it's OK ;)

Actually, the good thing with "pas assez' is that it is up to the speaker's choice : you can make the liaison or not. Both are correct.

It's true that liaisons in French are complicated though as they are sometimes compulsory, sometimes forbidden, and with specific rules.

Luckily here both pronunciations are accepted!

C'est la même chose pour moi: j'adore dormir (10-11 heures) mais malheureusement je ne dors que 6-7 heures par nuit (il faut travailler : )

Je te propose cette correction de ton commentaire:

Moi, je dors six-huit heures par nuit. J'aime beaucoup dormir et c'est très difficile pour moi de me réveiller, particulièrement de bonne heure (pour moi c'est jusqu'à neuf heures du matin), peut-être que c'est parce que je me couche très tard). Je suis fatiguée et je bâille toute la journée quand je dors moins de six heures.

Très bon commentaire antics. Je crois en effet qu'il y a une relation entre le fait d'aller se coucher tard et le fait d'être fatigué le matin : )

Selon moi, un francophone dirait: "Ce n'est pas toujours bon de trop dormir".
