La leçon a été très drôle. J'ai été assez surprise quand j'ai ecouté la femme faire ça!
Mon Dieu! c'est vraiment gênant haha, no wonder the guy asked for la addition tout de suite^^

Great lesson. It had it all;romance, embarrassing social situation, humour, great background music,a feel of authenticity, and education all in one brief podcast.Initially I thought the guy was calling for the bill as she was about to be sick, but obviously it was all a bit much for him.Bit disappointed in him;he should have stuck with ce n'est pas grave, but then it wouldn't have been so funny.
I didn't realise you could drop the "ne"/ "n" of "ne ...pas" altogether in speech if I've heard you correctly [I suppose the "pas" part gives away that it is still in the negative ].Does this apply to speech as well ? For example ,could "Ce n`est pas grave" be written "C'est pas grave",which is what I think you're saying? I'm guessing no,but would be interested to know.

Fantastic burping sounds!
Est-ce qu'on peut utilise aussi "la note" pour demander "l'addition"? Et, qu'est-ce que c'est "la facture"? Merci.

Heh, I really found it hard concentrating on the lesson and repeating together with the dialogue and the hosts, because I was too busy laughing from the dialogue. :)

Wow! Thanks for your comments everyone! Really glad you liked the lesson! Non anna8, malheureusement, ce n'est pas moi qui ai fait le bruitage... J'aurais été tellement fière... hihi
To answer your question, bababardwan, yes very often in spoken French, French people drop the "n'/ne" of "ne pas". For instance, "je n'ai pas faim" (I am not hungry) will become "j'ai pas faim" or "il ne m'aime pas" (he doesn't love me) will be " il m'aime pas".
But when writing, I would say it is better to write everything, that is "ne" and "pas", unless you really want what you write to be a reflection of what people actually say (like some modern authors do).
Pinkjeans, oui tu peux utiliser "la note" pour dire l'addition. Mais tu ne peux pas utiliser le mot "la facture" quand tu vas au restaurant ou dans un café.
Tu peux utiliser le mot "la facture" (invoice) quand tu achètes des vêtements par correspondance, ou quand une entreprise passe une commande auprès d'un fournisseur (supplier), ou pour parler de facture d'électricité, d'eau (electricity bill, water bill).
I hope that helps!

Ah, j'ai failli oublier: LOL en français se dit... LOL!
On utilise aussi MDR (mort de rire). Mais le plus utilisé est LOL, bonwatts.

heyhy... nice lesson.. i laughed out loud when the first time i heard it... MDR!! hahha...
btw could you say que tu es belle? is it the same sense??
yes i think all of the french speaker leave the 'ne' so it's getting a little bit confusing at first when they say "il y'a qu'une place, il y a personne, etc..." usually they say the 'ne' when they emphasizing the no.... like "it's iiimmpoossiibbbllleeee" they would say "Ce N'est pas possible" rather than "c'est pas possible"... isn't it?? heheh hope it helps...
thx!

My mother tongue is Spanish and I find so difficult to pronounce French correctly...I don't get what you 'say' according to what is 'written'. I hope I'll get it eventually...
The lessons are really good, it helps a lot.

haha very funny :D
french pronunciation is quite difficult i agree with you uryamil
spanishlearners says

If pronunciation is difficult it means that you will be one of the few that can read it if you go the extra mile.Imagine yourself ordering the French magazine while others gaze at you???.
If it was easy you would be listening to the advanced lessons then. People keep going and encourage yourself.
Saying few words is far better than sealing your lips while you do not have a clue what is going on. It is very hard but at the same time very rewarding, give yourself at least a year or two of effort then measure what you did to what you were, if u put decent effort you should be ahead some distance of what you were (no one said it is easy).

Salut icfan,
Merci beaucoup pour ce commentaire.
To make it perfect, you need to write :
merci pour toutes les leçons. (as 'leçon' is feminin)
Elles sont merveilleuses. (same reason)
J'aime écouter et apprendre plus avec les leçons.
Merci beaucoup =D

hi teachers,,,something is confusing me,,,on your previous lessons you always use ' EXCUSEZ-MOI' which means excuse me...right??? but here you use PARDON...
an you tell me what is the difference between the two and how will i use it in the sentence...
thanks in advance...
god bless
amaurylibeer says
August 16, 2009
Salut marynavoa,
The truth is that the two expressions are interchangeable. I would say that 'excusez-moi' is a little bit more formal. Here, in the discussion, the girl could have said 'Excusez-moi' instead of 'pardon'.
In the newbie lesson 0004 'Do you have a light?', it's the same thing : the first line of the dialog 'Excusez-moi, vous avez du feu?' could be 'Pardon, vous avez du feu?'
Here is another example : let's say you're want someone in front of you to move, you can say : 'Pardon' or 'Excusez-moi'
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further doubts.

i want to know the name of this sound i heard before the word l'addition...
Merci
amaurylibeer says
October 24, 2009
Hahaha, ok, le son que tu entends avant le mot addition est un 'rot' ou un 'renvoi' en français (same thing).
Et le verbe 'to burp' se dit en français 'roter' samiziko.

What do we say when someone sneezes?
Thank you
amaurylibeer says
July 15, 2010
'To sneeze' is "éternuer" Sami.
Par exemple:
"Je suis malade, j'éternue tout le temps" (I'm sick, I sneeze all the time).
